Official information and determinations

Professional credentials and affiliations
References to Cynthia Gibson, CFP® describe a professional credential and do not by themselves indicate that a visitor is receiving financial planning services. The website does not claim an affiliation with LPL Financial, FINRA, or another broker-dealer, registered investment adviser, or financial institution. Any financial-planning engagement would require separate documentation from the applicable professional or firm.
Estimates and assumptions
A planning result may depend on user-provided information, earnings records, birth and marital dates, claiming dates, longevity assumptions, inflation or cost-of-living assumptions, future earnings, and the law or administrative guidance in effect when the result is produced. Incomplete or inaccurate inputs can change the output.
Break-even ages and cumulative-benefit comparisons are scenario tools. They do not measure every factor relevant to a decision, including liquidity, investment returns, taxes, health, survivor needs, or changes in law, unless the analysis expressly includes those assumptions.
No outcome or maximization guarantee
Social Security GPS does not guarantee that any strategy will maximize lifetime benefits, produce a particular dollar amount, eliminate risk, or be optimal for a person or household. The highest projected cumulative benefit is not automatically the most appropriate choice.
Time-sensitive content
Social Security rules and annual values can change. Resources identify an updated date, and annual figures are labeled by year where practical. A date does not guarantee that no later change has occurred. Verify current information with SSA before filing or making a recommendation.
2026 figures
Public resources may reference 2026 values from SSA, including the 2.8 percent cost-of-living adjustment, $24,480 retirement earnings-test limit for a person under full retirement age all year, $65,160 limit for the year full retirement age is reached, $184,500 maximum taxable earnings, and an estimated average retired-worker benefit of $2,071 per month in January 2026. These are time-limited program figures, not promises or individual estimates.
WEP and GPO repeal
The Social Security Fairness Act repealed the Windfall Elimination Provision and Government Pension Offset. SSA states that WEP and GPO no longer apply to benefits payable for January 2024 and later; December 2023 was the last month they could apply. Individual retroactive payments or adjustments must be confirmed with SSA.
